The Wickham Society was formed in 1984 as an independent voice and ‘watchdog’ on local matters affecting residents of the parish, such as:
- Winchester City Council’s Local Development Plan for over 200 new houses in the village – potentially changing its character significantly
- Fareham Borough Council’s Strategic Development Plan to build more than 6,000 new homes and associated amenities on the fields between the M27 and Wickham, causing substantial pressure on local infrastructure
- Affordable houses and their location
- The care and upkeep of local environmental amenities such as the Water Meadows, Wickham Common and the old railway line and its bridges
If you value a strong sense of community and location, the things which make Wickham and the surrounding area such a special place to live, you will find plenty of interest in the Wickham Society – why not join us?
